Jo Bartlett and Danny Hagan are thrilled to bring a very special one-off Buzz Club to the West End Centre in Aldershot as part of the venue’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The duo brought such artists as Blur, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Suede, Primal Scream, The Charlatans, The Manic Street Preachers and many more to the venue, when they ran their monthly club at the W.E.C. in the mid-1980s to the early ‘90s. On Saturday 22 February 2025 a very special evening of indie music, talks, films and immersive installations will echo through the venue’s various rooms and bar. Headlining are Swansea Sound: Indie supergroup Swansea Sound hail from Kent/Swansea, Reuniting Hue Williams and Amelia Fletcher, the original singers of cult 1990s UK indie band The Pooh Sticks, Swansea Sound have become a popular fixture on the UK indie scene. They have released two acclaimed albums, are frequently played on the BBC and have recorded a live BBC6Music session. Revolver were a London-based guitar band in existence from 1990 until 1994, led by Mat Flint (guitar/vocals). They signed to Hut Records and their first three singles all topped the UK independent charts. We are delighted that Revolver have now officially reformed, after an incredible set at the Shiine On festival in early November 2024. Revolver make their Buzz Club debut on 22 February 2025. Also reforming, but only for this special night are Jo and Danny’s own band, Bluetrain. Bluetrain were Buzz Club favourites and released a 12”, ‘Land of Gold’ on Dan Treacy’s (of The Television Personalities) Dreamworld Records in 1987. The original Bluetrain line up, also featuring Kevin Moorey of Bennet on drums and Rudy Carroll on guitar will be playing a short set, the first time they will have played together since their tour of Singapore in 1990. First band on, in the main auditorium will be The Gymkhana featuring Patch formerly of The Sundays and Jason Applin from Bennet. Talks in the Gallery will be hosted by Buzz Club regular Mark Sutherland. Since those heady Buzz Club days, Mark Sutherland became a leading music journalist and broadcaster with more than thirty years experience. His writing and editing work spans publications such as Billboard, Music Week, NME, Rolling Stone, and Variety. He has also contributed to BBC Radio 6 Music. Mark will be in discussion with Johnny Hopkins (with more to be added). Ever wondered how crazy it must have been when Oasis exploded from being an indie band into being a world-wide phenomenon? Johnny Hopkins was the press officer for Oasis from when they signed to Creation Records in 1993, through the glory years, up until 2000 and has many tales to tell! Johnny will also be taking questions. There will also be live video recordings of The Manic Street Preachers and Elastica’s Buzz Club performances on the cinema screen in the gallery. Live audio Buzz Club recordings, accompanied by many of another Buzz Club regular; Tim Paton’s wonderful black and white photos. There will also be some lovely Buzz Club classic flyers as give aways! Described as ‘an indiepop miracle’ by All Music, Swansea Sound combine a witty, sardonic, very contemporary lyrical attack with timeless guitar-pop songwriting. Latest single ‘Markin’ It Down’, which features Amelia as an unimpressed record shop worker and Hue as an ever-optimistic customer, was released in April to mark International Record Store Day. Since then, they have played two tours of America and plenty of UK live dates. The live experience is unmissable, with Hue and Amelia playing off each other, sometimes duetting, sometimes harmonising, always entertaining, while the band (Rob Pursey – who was in the band Heavenly with Amelia, Bob Collins – The Dentists, Ian Button - Death In Vegas) kick up an infectious melodic racket.
