The latest full-length offering from Cyan Kicks, “I Never Said 4ever”, was born out of the deep dive of memories formed during formative years as 20-somethings for the Helsinki natives. Their distinct autobiographical writing style envelopes all of the honesty, strength, disillusionment, restlessness, dazzling highs and bittersweet lows of one trying to navigate a new life and what yet lies ahead. “If the thing you’re doing scares you, then you’re on the right track.” Susanna Alexandra says, and she’s not wrong. The band’s inherent transformative ability to delve into vulnerabilities whilst providing a voice of true fortitude speaks strongly to the Finns deep-rooted inner strength and sense of self, simply known as “Sisu”.

Long-lasting relationships often form the strongest of bonds and, since their first full formation back in 2016, lead songwriters Susanna Alexandra and Niila Perkkio (vocals and guitar), together with bassist Leevi Erkkila and drummer Pietari Reijonen have cultivated a dedicated international fanbase based on their unique vivid dream-rock sound, claiming a space all their own within the alternative world.

Signing with Ranka Kustannus one year after their inception, they have evolved and explored different genres, from the Emma (Finnish Grammy Award) nominated “I Don’t Love You” (2019), “Not Your Kind” EP (2021) into recent sophomore gift, “I Never Said 4ever” (2023), catchy bright melodies and powerhouse vocals entangle with dream-like synths, heavy hitting riffs and most importantly, the power to sing about personal feelings and translate through to the universal.

Several years of headline tours and arena shows across Europe and the UK have allowed the chance to feel true human connection with their fans, something much more important to Cyan Kicks than most. Festival shows, including being invited to perform at South By Southwest (SXSW) in the US and France’s Eurosonic, alongside being hand-selected to compete twice in the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), Finland’s national Eurovision qualifier, has seen the young foursome perform to millions the world over.

“Dancing With Demons”, Cyan Kicks 2024 UMK entry and latest release co-written and mixed by Dan Lancaster (Muse), leans into a much more dark and twisted side of their personality, with the suggestion that what follows is unpredictable, but a path worth following.
