Wordsmithery returns to Start Yard with a special double headliner evening, bringing together two established local legends for an intimate night of deep listening and exceptional songwriting.
This event features two extended live sets, giving audiences the rare chance to fully immerse themselves in the craft, stories and musical worlds of two outstanding artists. Expect rich narratives, exquisite musicianship and a shared atmosphere that invites you to slow down and truly connect with the music.
Hughzy (Ben "Highly" Hughes)
Hughzy is a genre-defying artist blending pop sensibility with singer-songwriter intimacy and remarkable guitar virtuosity. His sound is creative, intricate and sonically sublime, weaving together influences from blues, jazz and country into a distinctive indie-pop style. A true force on the Liverpool music scene, Hughzy's performances are both technically impressive and emotionally resonant.
Danny Bradley
Danny Bradley is an award-winning fingerstyle folk musician whose career has seen him tour the UK supporting artists including Richard Thompson and Fairport Convention. He is the winner of the Liverpool Acoustic Judges Award and has opened for Jon Gomm, Martin Carthy and Tony McManus.
Born in the USA and raised in the UK, Danny has been described by Americana UK as "less a one man band, and more a one man orchestra," praised for his poetic songwriting and a vocal range reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley. His debut album Small Talk Songs is available now.
Support: Nicola Hardman
The evening also features special support from local storyteller Nicola Hardman. A familiar and much-loved presence at Start Yard, this performance will be particularly special as Nicola presents a set fully dedicated to her powerful and captivating poetry.
Hosted by Alison Schultz
The night will be thoughtfully hosted by Alison Schultz, guiding the evening and creating the welcoming Wordsmithery atmosphere audiences have come to love.
