EYESORE & THE JINX // CAMERON LOWE AND THE SUICIDE JOCKEYS

We’ve another great Independent Venue Week show to unveil at CWRW – Liverpool’s Eyesore & The Jinx, accompanied by Cardiff’s newest, Cameron Lowe and the Suicide Jockeys! Tickets are on sale now via the link in our bio and – if you’re rapid – there are some £3 early bird tickets to be had!

Eyesore & The Jinx’s early singles and debut EP were released by Merseyside tastemakers Eggy Records. Eyesore’s sphere of influence began to expand out their home region, starting with a BBC 6Music Roundtable win for ‘On an Island’, produced by Jonathan Hartley from iconic psych-surgeons Clinc. Their debut EP, featuring singles ‘Leisure Time’ (KEXP Song of the Day) and ‘Nightlife’, was produced by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band).

Eyesore songs often consist of ugly narratives centred around vile fictional characters. They take loose inspiration from what is happening around them, which has meant in some cases, their made-up stories have come true. Predicting the downfall of local public figures aside, their repertoire often centres around the worst of society (the eyesore), but with a playful side (the jinx). After releasing the EP in the midst of the pandemic, they spent the latter end of 2021 and much of 2022 writing new material and tightening it up on stage with choice gigs supporting acts like Bodega, Protomartyr and DITZ. While stepping away from releasing music to continue writing and demoing, ‘Leisure Time’ carried on doing the work behind their backs appearing on an episode of Shameless US and a number of Spotify editorial playlists.

Their debut album ‘Jitterbug’, featuring singles ‘No More Nails’, ‘Nocturnal Athletes (Ode to Bruno) and ‘Float Like a Jellyfish (Sting Like a Subtweet)’ arrived in March 2024 and received widespread acclaim including from Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson of BBC 6Music.

“Jitterbug should see the band catapult to the top tier of the UK’s post-punk scene” - Analogue Trash

“It’s hard not to hear the song as the beginning of a level up for Eyesore & The Jinx” - Stereogum

"A noise explosion of pointy guitars, punchy riffs, pounding drums and fast-talking lyrics" - Left of the Dial

One of the newest and most exciting faces on the Welsh indie scene, Cardiff-born singer-songwriter Cameron Lowe made his debut on the music scene in 2023. His work has been conducted at a frantic pace – releasing his first single, Need A Minute, and his first album, Cameron Lowe and the Suicide Jockeys, in late 2023. An experimental, punk-influenced record, it was co-written and produced with Hugh Hill, frontman of Cardiff-based band Kurios Oranj, and features guitar and vocals from Hill, with drumming from Kurios Oranj’s Sonny Carr.

Eager to press on and with seemingly boundless reserves of inspiration, Lowe set about released a first EP, Drifter, in May 2024, with Hill and Carr again providing guitar and vocals.

Representing a significant development in sound and featuring everything from the fast-paced punk Lowe has cited as a major part of his sound to longer, more psychedelic-sounding tracks.

With Lowe now venturing into live performances and the EP receiving more positive reviews by the day, there seems to be no limit to Cameron Lowe’s potential, and looks set to take the mantle as one of the many rising stars in UK indie music. - Jordi Blake
