Freya is a hardcore/metal band from Syracuse, New York, formed in 2001 by vocalist Karl Buechner, bassist Ian Edwards, and lead guitarist Eric Edwards, all former members of the influential hardcore band Earth Crisis. Following Earth Crisis's temporary disbandment, these musicians established Freya to explore a heavier, more thrash-influenced sound while maintaining their hardcore roots. 

Over the past two decades, Freya has carved out a distinct identity within the hardcore and metal scenes. Their music blends aggressive New York-style hardcore with elements of thrash metal, creating a sound that is both intense and dynamic. The band's lyrical themes often draw from history and mythology, reflecting on the struggles between heroes and villains across various cultures.
