There’s only one Geno. From tearing up the floor at Soho’s Flamingo Club to being name-checked in a Dexys Midnight Runners chart-topper, Geno Washington is woven deep into the fabric of British soul history - an American GI whose voice and energy set 1960s London alight.

Born in Evansville, Indiana, Geno landed in the UK with the swagger of the blues and the heartbeat of R&B pulsing through his veins. In no time, he was sharing stages with Georgie Fame, Zoot Money and a host of now-legendary names, lighting up packed-out nights with his irrepressible vocals and magnetic presence. With the mighty Ram Jam Band, Geno would go on to sell out venues across the country and chart two albums, Hand Clappin’, Foot Stompin’, Funky-Butt… Live! and Hipster Flipsters Finger Poppin’ Daddies, both storming into the UK Top 10.

Fast forward to today and Geno is still firing on all cylinders. Backed by The Yo Yo’s, featuring original Ram Jam legends Geoff Hemsley, Steve Bingham and Greg Lester, this band means business. Think gritty Memphis grooves, high-octane Stax soul and bluesy grit with a wicked sense of swing. Their live shows are a joyride through the golden years of soul and R&B, with Geno’s vocals sharper than ever and the band tighter than a snare drum.

His latest release, It’s Geno Time (recorded live at The Half Moon), proves he’s still a master of his craft - a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by BBC Radio, Mojo and a legion of fans who refuse to let him off the stage.
