With a late cancellation a couple of weeks ago on Friday 6th March, we've asked one of our regular jazz/world music promoters DJ Lubi to host a last minute free entry show in the Community Room.
He's bringing in the north's number one Brazilian music band Gustavo Andrade & The Brasukas for a night of samba, MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), axé, forró and Brazilian soul. He and the band just sold out Belgrave Music Hall in advance for the Brazil Carnival 2026 Leeds party. Hundreds couldn't get tickets and so we've decided to do a free show with the band to give those people a chance to catch some of the Rio Carnival vibe from February. If you did manage to attend the show, then you know how good it was, so come back for some more. The band are about to finish their Brazil Carnival 2026 tour and have sold out shows in Nottingham and Manchester alongside Leeds, with the two final shows in Edinburgh and Newcastle almost sold out too. With three singers, three horn players, two percussionists alongside guitar, bass, keys, drums and Gustavo on lead vocals/percussion, it's a big samba sound made for dancing.
Once again, Gustavo and friends will do an early doors "roda de samba' jam session on the dance floor, open to all musicians and singers who play/perform Brazilian music. This jam is how Brazilians get together in the homeland and across the world to sing and dance to popular samba songs.
DJ Lubi will keep things ticking over with some nice Brazilian beats past and present, with more focus on the MPB, bossa, samba rock and Brazilian soul/disco vibes rather than carnival flavours (though no doubt he'll still be dropping some samba, pagode and axé).
Doors are 7.30pm. The "roda de samba" jam will start at 8pm with Gustavo and The Brasukas onstage around 9.00pm. The show is free entry.
