Hafwyl introduces the finest Welsh language bands playing today.
BWNCATH
Bwncath is another of the busiest and most popular bands in Wales. The band formed in 2014 and quickly established themselves as a significant presence on the Welsh music scene with their live performances and distinctive songs. Their music blends soft folk tones with modern pop sensibilities, and they are considered one of the most innovative bands in Wales today. In 2023, the band performed at the National Eisteddfod, where they broke the record for the largest crowd ever at a Welsh-language music gig. The band’s lead singer and composer, Elidyr Glyn, is a well-known figure in the Welsh music scene. He won the televised competition Cân i Gymru in 2019 with his song "Fel Hyn da ni Fod". The band continues to engage with their audience through live performances and a blend of traditional and contemporary musical creativity.
9BACH
9Bach, one of Wales’s most visionary bands, who have established themselves as a unique creative force on the music scene. Led by Lisa Jên Brown, they have broken new ground by combining Welsh musical heritage with contemporary sounds. In 2025, the band reached a completely new stage in their musical journey through collaboration with Andy Gangadeen - an artist with experience working with leading bands and bringing "powerful big beats and up-tempo grooves" to 9Bach's unique sound.
BOB DELYN
Fronted by Prifardd Twm Morys, Bob Delyn a'r Ebillion are a major figure in the history of Welsh folk revival in the early 1990s.[2] Their music combines an eclectic array of influences and instruments with more traditional Welsh folk and roots sounds. The group's use of both Welsh and Breton highlights the similarities and differences between Wales and Brittany.
PYS MELYN
Pys Melyn are Ceiri, Sion, Owain, Owain and Jac from Pen Llyn. Their album “Bywyd Llonydd,” in 2021, drew on a variety of global influences. Their album ‘Bolmynydd’ released in 2023, draws on a more traditional range of 60’s/70’s influences. The band have toured the UK and Brittany, playing venues such as The Garage in London and Rough Trade Bristol.
