We're starting the year with a bang, celebrating 19 years of underground raves in the city! Joining us for our bass heavy shenanigans we have not 1, or 2, but 3 massive veteran artists making their York debut!
To solidify his musical experience as an artist, he started recording songs for various record labels and bands. In 1994 he featured on the D*Note Jazz/Jungle fusion album entitled ‘Crimimal Justice’. Both of his tracks received high critical media acclaim receiving a Gold Disc for the single 'Inequity Worker'. In 1997 he recorded the classic jungle / bhangra / electronica fusion track 'Culture Move' with Asian Dub Foundation, he also features on 'Power to the Small Massive' on their 'Enemy of the Enemy' album. Between 96-98 he joined BBC Radio1 and was the main presenter for the 1 in the Jungle show on Saturday nights. He handed the reins over to Grooverider & Fabio in 1999. In 1998 Navigator joined breakbeat band Freestylers as a live show hype MC. A lucky break resulted in voicing the mega worldwide smash hit single and video 'Ruffneck'. Soon after that he recorded the other killer hit jungle / breakbeat / rock fusion track called ‘Warning’. Both tracks were singles taken from the groundbreaking album 'We Rock Hard'. Winning the Ericsson Muzik Magazine ‘BEST BAND’ Dance Award led to Freestylers being booked to support Lenny Kravitz on his 1999 U.S. tour. That same year they headlined the Jazz stage at Glastonbury Festival and Navigator was also awarded a Platinum Disc for Ruffneck. In 2001 Navigator jointly formed Rawhill Cru together with MC $pyda aka Black Tarantula and went on in 2003 to record the classic drum&bass dancefloor anthem 'Mo’ Fire'. Remixed by the mighty drum&bass producers Fresh (Breakbeat Kaos) and Andy C (RAM) and released on Bad Company Recordings. In 2004 he was was invited by Roni Size to record on 'Gimme the Reason' for the 'Return To V' album released on V Recordings. In 2005 he recorded a number of other tracks with Roni, Krust, Jumpin Jack Frost, Die and Clipz for a Navigator solo album project Other notable releases are Got 1 Life on the Qemists album ‘Join the Q’ released on Ninja Tune in Feb 2009. Also 'Dancehall Thrilla' with Deekline & Wizard. 'Ruffneck' has been revoiced and remixed by breakbeat electronic punks Ctrl Z, additional Ruffneck remixes come from RackNRuin, Pirate Soundsystem, High Rankin and also best selling dubsteppers Excision & Datsik whose version went No.1 in multiple charts. Current projects include a jungle / drum&bass collaboration with Tony Anthem (Future Prophecies) and ErbNduB. One of their releases: 'Fire Bun' which features the vocals of raw talent SMK, went to No.1 on several online digital downloads sites as well. Drumstep track ‘Bar Knuckles’ was released in July 2010 featuring Navigator, Eksman, SMK and Dr.Alaska, is a futuristic style of Drum and Bass showcasing MC talent from the scene like never done before. Navigator has also had huge success on the German HipHop scene featuring on a track entitled ‘Fuck tha Police 2010’ with AZAD and Godsilla. The track climbed to No.1 on the German MTV urbanclips chart and has had over 1 Million views on youtube.. He is also currently busy working on many other music projects in several other countries and continues to dominate the jungle and drum&bass scene today! Releasing rave-ready beats on some of the most respected labels in her field – Hospital Records, Born On Road, Dread Recordings, Jungle Cakes and more – Euphonique’s high energy, system-shaking signature sound has been a key part of the drum&bass landscape since she first emerged in 2008. Her style has led to frequent support across the board ever since with heavy plays on prime stations such as Radio 1, 1Xtra and Radio 1 Dance; multiple award nominations; collaborations with likes of Bou, Selecta J-Man, Gray, Redders, Aries, DJ Hybrid and Kelvin 373; a string of digital number 1s with her solo releases;and performances at many iconic events and venues around the world from Glastonbury and Boomtown, to Loves Saves The Day and Hospitality On The Beach, Warehouse Project, Fabric and far beyond, across Europe and SouthEast Asia. Euphonique has taken her art around the world and across the airwaves. Broadcasting since ’09, she got her first show on FM at 19 on Unity Radio 92.8FM, she’s a regular on the likes of Rinse, Bloc2Bloc, Rood FM and DnB Radio and currently hosts a show with Bristol jungle pioneer Dazee on SWU.FM A music teacher, performance mentor and lyric writer, Euphonique is motivated by empowering the next generation of artists and is a proud product of the UK free party movement’s positive DIY ethos. Driven by community and championing equality and representation across the scene, she is referenced by many as a key inspiration and mentor for young artists breaking into electronic music. Euphonique’s brand Subwoofah was a significant Manchester hub as one of the city’s most consistent and popular D&B events. She founded a thriving studio community where many of the scene’s leading lights would stream and record, and many of the new generation would come to learn. She also started a record label, responsible for breaking new talent such as Epicentre, Sl8r, Motiv and K-Jah with a string of chart topping releases and D&B number 1s. Now based in Bristol, Euphonique continues to not only smash out sets at some of the best festivals and club brands throughout the UK and abroad, but continues to produce consistent top quality music due on some of the scene's biggest labels. We're looking forward to her bringing the fire!
DJ Hybrid
In addition to his successful production career, DJ Hybrid is also a supremely skilled DJ who has performed at some of the world's most renowned drum and bass events; including Boomtown,Glastonbury, Let It Roll plus has toured all over the US, Canada and Europe. His electrifying stage presence and seamless mixing skills guarantees that DJ Hybrid always delivers an unforgettable live experience for the dancefloor. Whether he's playing a small intimate club or a massive outdoor event, he always brings the same level of passion and dedication to his performances.Today, he is regarded some of as a leader of the modern jungle movement, continuing to push theboundaries of the genre.
Navigator started his musical career performing live on UK Reggae sound systems, achieving recognition and notoriety on top north east London Soundsystem Unity Hi-Power. He then moved onto the jungle/ and drum&bass scene just as it began. He established his name on the legendary pirate radio station Kool FM and performed at all the big jungle raves. His reputation helped him to become the only resident MC from the UK on the biggest jungle party organization in Germany called Meditation. He also toured Germany with legends Mickey Finn, DJ Rap, Shy FX, DJ Brockie and MC Det on the Jungle Warriors tour.
