John Meagher: Big Year

THE SHOW

Directed by comedy sensation Vittorio Angelone; “Big Year” was one of the breakout shows of the Edinburgh Fringe 2024, receiving critical acclaim and playing to sold out crowds. 

 

"Big Year" is a love story about how a working class Catholic (or "Good Guy" as they call themselves) from Northern Ireland, and a privately educated Middle Eastern Muslim can get together and figure out a way through their differences to (hopefully) live happily ever after!

 

Rolling Stone magazine picked it as one of their stand out shows of the year, saying ‘This is a furious, tender, brutal, loving and most of all hilarious hour that confounds your presumptions at every turn’, and called John ‘The next great Irish Comedian’

Monkey Barrel Comedy has been ‘Scotland’s Best Comedy Venue’ since 2020 (Chortle Awards) and was described by The List as “a year-round Edinburgh institution”. It has over 500 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor, making it one of the city’s top-rated year-round attractions.

DRINKS & MORE

Our adjoining bar, Barrel Bar, is open from 3pm on Fridays, 1pm on Saturday and at least 1 hour before every show every other day. It serves a wide selection of drinks, including locally-sourced beers, cocktails, and spirits.
