Julian Marley is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Barbados-born Lucy
Pounder. Growing up in a musical environment, he became a self-taught
musician, mastering various instruments including the bass, drums, guitar,
and keyboards. His debut album, "Lion in the Morning," released in 1996,
showcased his roots and heritage, leading to an international tour with The
Uprising.
In 1998, Julian contributed to Lauryn Hill's Grammy-winning album, "The
Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," and in 2003, he released his sophomore album,
"A Time and Place," which blended reggae and jazz. His 2009 album, "Awake,"
was Grammy-nominated and won 'Best Album of the Year' at the International
Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) in 2010.
Recognized for his contributions to the consciousness movement in music,
Julian is a devout Rastafarian whose work is deeply inspired by life and
spirituality. In 2023, he won a Grammy for his album "Colors of Royal" and
received another nomination for the 2024 awards, solidifying his ongoing
impact in the reggae genre.
Julian is expanding his brand and has several projects outside of music in
the works, including a partnership with Bio Biz, a global company that
focuses on sustainable cannabis solutions. As he prepares to release his
next music project, Julian continues to tour and share his message
globally, embodying his father's legacy while forging his unique path.
