Night is about to fall, the day slowly fades away, and it is this twilight time that Magda Drozd's latest album inhabits. Divided by Dusk, the Polish composer's third solo album, carries the promise of a crepuscular otherworldliness. Inspired by Drozd's stays in Japan, its rich tradition in ambient and experimental music and a collaboration with Japanese flautist Rai Tateishi, as well as a renewed engagement with her roots in Poland and its folk and ancient history, her work is a form of sonic excavation. Layers of dark-ambient tones intertwine with field recordings, textured violin, and luminous folk motifs, invoking long-gone, unspecified rituals.
The album freely interprets traditional folklore, unleashing the ghosts of past cultures we inherit through music passed down to us. Paired with experimental ambient sonic textures, the album carries a magnificent, wandering, melancholic air. The compositions take on an incantatory dimension, welcoming us into a liminal world-one filled with buried treasures.

Magda Drozd, born in Warsaw, is a composer, violinist, and sound artist living in Zürich and London. She has been releasing her music on the Swiss label Präsens Editionen since 2019 and further releases have followed on Hallow Ground for their compilation 'Epiphanies', on Flaming Pines for the concept album 'Cassette Album' by Salomé Voegelin, and on her own label Rivercore, a platform for experimental music.
Together with Nicola Genovese, she founded the duo Sopraterra, who released the LP 'Seven Dances to Embrace the Hollow' on Präsens Editionen and La Becque Editions in 2025.
