Magnetic Skies

Magnetic Skies are a UK synth-pop and darkwave band whose cinematic electronic sound blends vintage analogue textures with soaring modern songwriting. Formed by vocalist/keyboardist Simon Kent and keyboardist Jo Womar, the project began as a studio collaboration inspired by a shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk and electronic pop. What started as an experimental recording partnership quickly evolved into a fully realised band, with drummer Lenin Alegria joining the line-up and helping translate the duo's atmospheric recordings into an immersive live experience.

Magnetic Skies first built momentum through a series of EP releases during 2020, establishing a signature sound built around pulsing basslines, analogue synthesisers and emotionally charged vocals. Their music draws on the lineage of classic synthpop and new wave while embracing a darker, cinematic edge, resulting in a style that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking.

The band released their debut album Empire Falling in 2023, marking their arrival as a major new voice in the UK's independent electronic scene. The record earned praise across specialist and alternative music press for its blend of darkwave atmosphere and melodic synthpop, helping the band reach a wider audience and leading to high-profile support slots with artists including Altered Images, Heaven 17, Empathy Test and Then Jerico.

In 2025, Magnetic Skies returned with a run of new singles including A Place On Earth and Back To Life, previewing the band's second album Fragments. Released in November 2025, the album expanded the group's sonic palette while deepening their lyrical themes of connection, identity and modern dislocation. Produced by Simon Kent with additional production from Rob Aubrey, Fragments pairs expansive analogue soundscapes with anthemic choruses and emotionally resonant storytelling, further cementing the band's reputation for evocative, widescreen synth music.

Since their emergence, Magnetic Skies have become known for atmospheric live performances that blend driving electronic rhythms with dynamic stage energy. Having previously toured the UK in support of their releases, the band now continue to build on the momentum of Fragments with new live shows across the country.

With a growing reputation for crafting synth-driven songs that balance nostalgia with contemporary emotional depth, Magnetic Skies are steadily establishing themselves as one of the UK's most compelling modern electronic acts.

In June 2026, the band return to the road for a series of intimate UK dates, bringing the cinematic soundworld of Fragments to audiences around the country.
