Level 42’s Mike Lindup Announces Headline Trio Tour

Performing alongside Yolanda Charles MBE on bass and John Sam on drums.

Hailed by Gilles Peterson as “one of his all-time favourite vocalists,” Mike Lindup is a cornerstone of Brit funk and jazz. As the founding member, vocalist, keyboard player, and principal songwriter of Level 42, Mike helped shape some of the most enduring hits in pop music, including Lessons in Love and Something About You. With six Top 10 singles and seven Top 10 albums, his influence spans decades. Alongside his work with Level 42, Mike has released four acclaimed solo albums and collaborated with artists such as Eric Clapton, Dominic Miller, and Da Lata, firmly establishing his reputation as a world-class musician.

Following standout full-band performances at London’s Jazz Café and Union Chapel, Mike launched the Mike Lindup Trio, a focused live project rooted in the classic jazz trio format of keys, bass, and drums. The trio brings together three exceptional musicians: Mike Lindup on keys and vocals, Yolanda Charles MBE on bass - internationally recognised for her work with Hans Zimmer, Paul Weller, and B.B. King - and John Sam on drums, whose dynamic playing provides the trio’s rhythmic foundation.

The Mike Lindup Trio made its live debut in December 2025, performing headline shows in Paris, London, Newcastle, and Milton Keynes. A recent appearance on Gilles Peterson’s Rhodes Trilogy programme further showcased the trio’s sound and confirmed the project as a compelling new live offering.

Hailed by Gilles Peterson as “one of his all-time favourite vocalists,” Mike Lindup is a cornerstone of Brit funk and jazz.

As founding member, vocalist, keyboard player and composer of Level 42, Lindup helped shape some of the most iconic pop-funk of the 80s, including ‘Lessons in Love’ and ‘Something About You’. With six Top 10 singles and seven Top 10 albums, his influence on British pop and funk runs deep.

Joining him are two exceptional musicians: Yolanda Charles MBE on bass and drummer John Sam.

The trio now steps forward as a focused live project, blending Lindup’s unmistakable voice with fluid musicianship and deep-rooted groove.
