Nicola Hardman is a Liverpool-based theatrical alt-pop artist, poet and activist, known for weaving storytelling, piano-driven songs and embodied performance into a fiercely personal aesthetic, while continuing to carve out space for women and non-binary voices in the performing arts through her Liverpool based collective We Want Women CIC.
"Final Curtain Call" is "part two"of a bigger project Hardman has been working on, exposing an exploration of the fragile architecture that surrounds 'identity' and the performance required to sustain it, fused together with constant thresholds of where the person and performer meet each other.
The album and live experience asks what remains when the mask and face meet, when grief has to be remembered to be imagined, when humanity demands obedience for the selfhood to be shaped by another's existence, and when the only way forward is through rebirth.
This is work that lives in transition: between endings and beginnings, intimacy and exposure, control and surrender. It is raw, unfiltered and uncomfortable. The chapter closes in real time.
The last iteration of this work was so harrowing it demanded expansion - something larger, riskier, bolder and what arrives at Unity Theatre is the most ambitious incarnation yet.
