Osibisa bring their signature blend of Afro-rock energy to Boisdale for one very special summer night. Formed in London in 1969 by a collective of Ghanaian and Caribbean musicians, the band were among the first to fuse African highlife and traditional percussion with Caribbean calypso, jazz horns and the fire of rock’n’roll. The result was a sound that rewrote the musical map.

Their 1971 debut album, Osibisa, featured artwork by the legendary Roger Dean and introduced the world to a bold new sound powered by congas, brass and electric guitar. Hits like “Sunshine Day”, “Music for Gong Gong” and “Welcome Home” followed, with “Sunshine Day” reaching No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart in 1976 and becoming a global feel-good classic.

They’ve played everywhere from India to Japan, and their influence has rippled across generations, from fans of Santana and Fela Kuti to today’s global beats and afro-fusion scenes. The Guardian called Osibisa “crucial listening for anyone who wants to understand how African music reached the mainstream”, and the point still stands.

At Boisdale of Canary Wharf, you’ll experience their irresistible rhythms and horn-driven grooves up close, in a setting that puts every beat, chant and solo right where it belongs - in the heart and the hips. Pair it with a fine dinner and your favourite cocktail, and you’ve got a night that celebrates a movement.
