This is an in-person only event in the British Library Pigott Theatre.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music with the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble. This performance features eight members of the Ensemble playing traditional Chinese instruments, bringing to life compositions inspired by relics found in Dunhuang. This one-off performance includes a brand-new piece inspired by the British Library’s The Diamond Sutra currently on display in the exhibition, A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang

The Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble was established in 2018 and has gained worldwide recognition for its innovative projects. Its music draws inspiration from the themes of Dunhuang murals, such as Chinese history, art, culture and Buddhism. The Ensemble’s goal is to promote Dunhuang and Silk Road culture globally, blending traditional and modern approaches for immersive musical experiences.

This event accompanies the British Library exhibition A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang (27 September – 23 February 2025)
Half price tickets available for Members, Students, Under 26 and other concession groups.
Doors and Bar open at 19:00.  Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start time of this event.
