Slack City, the Brighton-based independent radio station, joins White Trash at the Social in the run-up to the station’s London launch.

The latest project from radio-guru Daniel Nathan, whose previous projects include Kiss FM in London, Manchester and Leeds, Surf fm (super ceded by Brighton's Juice 107.2), Festival Radio and totallyradio (the pioneering internet radio station), Slack City is a run by and for independently-minded DJs and listeners. Breaking from podcasts and play-listed formats, it’s available internationally online and over DAB in Brighton, Manchester, Portsmouth, Norwich ...and launching soon in London.

The Face magazine described Slack City as “the coolest station in Brighton - one of Britain’s coolest cities”.

Tonight is the first in a planned series of launch parties welcoming the station into London. It sees iconic electro-clash act Spektrum play their first live event in 10 years. Famed for their naughties club smash ‘Kinda New’ and singer Lola’s energetic vocals, and producer Gabriel Perkoviev's on-point arrangements, tonight marks the return of one of London’s liveliest club acts.

Locally based electro-pop trio Foley Street are brand new. Fronted by Frankfurt raised, London based singer Clarissa Ravens, they are named after a street a mere stones throw from The Social. The electronic trio's first releases have been springing up on radio stations around London and the South East.

Heading-up Slack City Radio DJs are Colin Newman, front person of pioneering post-punk act Wire, and Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact. Independent music icons in their own right, their swim~ record label has been championing forward looking music for over three decades. Their weekly Swimming in Sound show on Slack City continues an ongoing passion for showcasing music that slips through the mainstream.

Ian Parton originally created The Go! Team as a solo project fusing samples and live elements. The success of his Mercury nominated debut LP, Thunder, Lightening, Strike, led to the formation of a full live band. Twenty plus years later, the Team continues evolving and tonight Parton pops up wearing his Slack City hat.

Kicking-off proceedings is bass player and front man of Red Snapper, Ali Friend. He'll be in conversation with Ben Osborne, discussing his musical roots and his new single by side-project Numbers. The single is out that night and precedes a new LP being released on the fabulous Ramrock records.

White Trash host DJ Ben Osborne has rejoined Slack City after earlier attempts were thwarted by the pandemic. A veteran of Xfm, Totally Radio and NME Radio, where he presented left field dance shows, Ben's White Trash club night has been touring basement clubs and backroom pubs for the last two years. It now also has a home at Slack City Radio.
