TAITH FORTÉ // SLATE

We’ve teased this one for a while and are excited to reveal all…

SLUSH and CWRW are delighted to be hosting the Carmarthen leg of the Forté Project’s Taith Cymru / Wales Tour, headlined by none other than Slate! Anyone lucky enough to have been at Slate’s 2022 gig here (as Slate Caban) will know how much it means for us to have them return. To cap it off, they’ll be supported by new Forté Project artists MORN and Shale!

Emerging from the depths of Cardiff’s burgeoning music scene, and heirs to their country’s lineage of storytellers, are Slate. The four-piece reimagine the gothic foundations of new-wave, charging their sound with melodic force and the whiteknuckled intensity of post-punk. Their introductory singles ‘Tabernacl’ and ‘St Agatha’ found praise in the NME, Clash, So Young, DIY and more, as well as radio champions in Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6Music, and Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1. A reclamation of Welsh identity, and love of poetry which is woven into their live performances, are influences which announce Slate as a fascinating and necessary arrival.

MORN is a post-punk band born and bred in South Wales, formed by two sets of siblings and childhood friends. They have burst onto the scene with a distinct sound and a distinct message, characterised by atmospheric compositions and poetic lyricism. This emerging band have set themselves apart with a mixture of 'doom' over beautiful chords; screeching guitar riffs to shake you to the bone, precise but volatile drums and bass combined with coarse yet emotionally driven vocals. With their lyrical subject matters of introspection, friendship and the streets of Cardiff, MORN is a raucous and emotional take on post-punk.

Shale are a young indie, rock, pop, dance band from Cardiff, bringing an unforgiving groove, pop melodies which get your dad singing and enough dance to tire a boxer. Shale have picked up great support after releasing just three singles – establishing a really solid base in in their homeland with BBC Radio Wales Introducing backing and ‘Fuzzy Identities’ being A-Listed by the station, with support from Adam Walton and Huw Stephens. Their self-titled debut EP will be released in early 2025.

“This is one my favourite new bands over the past year. Brilliant band from Cardiff, with Swansea roots. This is Shale with Fuzzy Identities" – HUW STEPHENS

"Brimming with potential" – EMILY PILBEAM
