Five mothers, five losses, one actress: Custódia Gallego. Stabat Mater moves the secular iconography of the mother next to the cross into stories of our time: the pain of losing a child while still young, the drift of an addiction, a road accident, the conflict between motherhood and a cause that calls for other children, and, at the edge of language, the cry of a mother who is no longer human. On stage, five extreme experiences and the five senses of an actress give a nameless pain a face and a voice.
