THE DYNAMICS : THE STORY SO FAR

The Dynamics story began in the early 2000s, on the slopes of a Lyon hill called the Croix-Rousse. The group was formed through chance encounters, mostly nocturnal, during smoky evenings, musical and cosmopolitan parties, around a shared passion for all kinds of music, and especially those that bring souls together and shake them as much as feet : Soul, Funk, Rhythm’n’Blues, Disco, Dub, Rock’n’Roll, Reggae... This somewhat unlikely assemblage of musicians, producers, DJs, singers and personalities from diverse musical horizons and geographical origins decided to take to the stage at private parties as a vocal trio accompanied by an initially rudimentary sound system.

Inspired by the compilations released by London’s Soul Jazz Records at the time, reflecting the fascination of American soul with Jamaican music, they produced their first single on the Paris -based label Favorite Recordings. Their versions of Curtis Mayfield’s Move On Up and the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army met with great success and immediate international recognition. Other 45 rpm singles follow, continuing to circulate among DJs, while defining the band’s signature style and sound.

In 2007, the German label Groove Attack released their debut album Version Excursions, contributing to their international success. The album has sold over 40,000 copies to date, and is being reissued on vinyl this year, 2023. Made up of covers as varied as they are astonishing, it reaches a very wide audience, well beyond the reggae scene, and is played on numerous radio stations, compilations and playlists, including that of Don Letts. Nicole Willis asked them to remix two of her tracks, My four leaf clover and Feelin Free.

The Dynamics have forged a solid reputation on stage. They toured for 8 years in Europe, the Middle East and Japan, playing at international festivals such as Glastonbury, Lovebox, Vale Earth fair (UK), Freedom Sounds Festival (DE), Reggae Sun Ska, Garorock (Fr), Fringe and Waterford Festival (IR), Debaser (SE), Sudoeste Festival (Portugal), Popkomm (DE), Path of Death (Italy) and many others, from small clubs and concert halls to the main stages of festivals, opening for artists as diverse as Toots and the metals, Lee Perry, Snowboy, the Chemical Brothers, Coldplay, and Lady Gaga, they toured England and Ireland with the Trojan sound system.

Although their repertoire is essentially made up of covers from an eclectic repertoire, on record as well as on stage, thanks to the vocal trio and the production, they present a real originality and a unique sound in a perpetual mix of Dub, Reggae and Soul. Following the release of their second album, 180,000 Miles and Counting, a drummer and bassist reinforce the original line-up, bringing an even more powerful stage presence, while retaining the original spirit of the sound system.  New album - Drag n’ Fl
