The Orielles

Recent praise for The Orielles:
Only You Left spins in its own unpredictable orbit, pulling out new mysteries from their off centre helix of
goth, shoegazing and punk - Mojo Magazine ????
Evolving band now esoteric and enigmatic..recorded in both Hamburg and Hydra it feels almost
improvised half the time, but there's a quiet escalating intrigue to their murmurings - Record Collector
Bridging the extemporized feel of 2022 album 'Tableau' with the more stripped-back, song-led approach
of their earlier works - Clash
Once again, they're pushing boundaries in pursuit of their art, a theme which has been a constant thread
throughout their career and one for which they remain, in many ways, criminally underrated - Some
Other Time
The Orielles, who release their 4th studio album, Only You Left, this Friday, 13th March on Heavenly
Recordings, have today shared 'Wasp', the latest track to be taken from the record.
Talking about the track, The Orielles said:
Taking on another shift in perspective, the lyrics follow a miniscule wasp as it reaches the height of a
mountain, one of nature's grandest settings. Inspired by the film Black Narcissus I wanted to capture this
feeling of questioning faith, purpose and the self when confronted by such vastness, using a wasp to
exaggerate this magnitude even further. In seeing through its perspective maybe we can relate to the
plight of the wasp, but the real sting in the tale (hah!) is that ultimately it is nature itself that conditions
the wasp to hurt us.
'Wasp' follows previous singles 'Tears Are', 'Three Halves' and double-single You are Eating a Part of
Yourself' / 'To Undo the World Itself'.
The Manchester based 3-piece, consisting of Esmé Dee Hand-Halford (bass & vocals), Sidonie Dee
Hand-Halford (drums & vocals) and Henry Carlyle Wade (guitar & vocals), recorded the album between
Hamburg and the car-free Greek Island of Hydra with producer and long-time collaborator, Joel Anthony
Patchett.
