Totally Wired #7

Featuring Marc Riley & Steve Hanley (The Fall)

Friday 19th December 2025

DJs Chris Newfield from 8pm / Marc & Steve 10-11pm / Rob Gordon until 1am

The Talleyrand presents a dream scenario instalment of Totally Wired, featuring a DJ set from two of The Fall's most acclaimed former members.

Marc Riley joined The Fall aged 16, shaping their sound in the ferocious early years on bass then guitar and keys. Writing credits span timeless releases from Live at the Witch Trials to Hex Enduction Hour, Grotesque, Slates and Dragnet.

After an explosive exit from the band he started The Creepers, co-founded the In-Tape record label and began his DJ career at BBC Radio. Since joining 6 Music in 2004 (particularly through his long-running evening show) Marc has helped countless alternative bands break through, arguably taking up the mantle of John Peel as the UK airwaves' foremost tastemaker and champion of new alternative talent.

Steve Hanley is regularly cited by critics and peers as one of his generation's greatest bassists. His playing was singled out even by Mark E. Smith: 'He is the Fall sound.' Second only to Smith in longevity, he co-wrote the music to more than 100 songs across over a dozen albums, including standouts Totally Wired, Tempo House, Eat Yourself Fitter, How I Wrote Elastic Man, Hey Luciani, Hip Priest, Big New Prinz & New Puritan.

Besides other great bands like Brix and the Extricated, Steve has turned his deft hand to writing. His memoir The Big Midweek: Life Inside The Fall has been hailed from the pages of The Guardian and the New Statesman as one of the finest accounts ever written of life in a working band. Praised for its dark humour and vivid detail this clear-eyed and truthful testament of one of the UK's most volatile bands was recently recorded for audiobook by Stewart Lee. Hard copy will be on sale alongside other collectables on the night.

Marc and Steve's slot (10pm-11pm) is preceded by select vinyl from Chris Newfield (Process/And Other Delights) and followed by seasoned Totally Wired captain DJ Rob Gordon to bring us in to land. Expect some Fall tracks, eclectic and off-the-wall picks and some 'dancefloor big hitters'...
