From iconic movie themes to classic Broadway hits, the talented musicians of West Cornwall Concert Band will bring each piece to life. Whether you're a film buff, a theatre lover or simply someone who appreciate beautiful music this event is surely going to leave you humming tunes long after the last note has faded. The band is comprised of 50 plus regular players with a wide range of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, creating a hugely immersive sound, and performs a wide ranging repertoire including classical, jazz, swing, rock, big band, show, film and TV music. These are all arranged and ideally suited to the instrumental mix of a concert band so there's something for everyone.
Expect an immersive and powerful musical experience, the sheer number of performers creates a fullness you can feel as much as hear, with dynamics that range from delicate, almost whisper-like passages to bold, thunderous climaxes. Visually, it's just as captivating: the synchronised movements, the conductor's expressive guidance, and the coordinated effort of dozens of musicians working as one.
The band has a policy of encouraging players of all ages and experience. Some players have returned to the band to further develop their skills and are possibly studying for grades with a qualified tutor. Others are just starting out to learn an instrument. All are playing for the fun and enjoyment of making music in a welcoming, safe and friendly environment. We rehearse every Monday evening from 7-9pm at the Methodist Chapel, Chapel Street, Camborne and are always interested in new players.
