Unbound by genre limitations, Will Samson has spent over a decade exploring the spaces between electronic, folk and ambient sounds focused on immersive listening and analogue recording techniques.?With maternal grandparents born in Chile & West Bengal (subsequently meeting in Kenya), Samson has often displayed a somewhat restless nature in both his artistic and personal life. Born in Oxford, he emigrated soon afterwards with his parents to Western Australia, where he lived for ten years before returning to the UK. A little over a decade later, he began shifting between Oxford and Berlin, then Brighton, Lisbon, Brussels and back to the England. It's clear to see why much of Samson's captivating work has often explored the nature of identity and belonging.
Will has released records through labels such as Wichita Recordings / PIAS (Bloc Party, American Football, Ride), 12k (Taylor Deupree, Ryuichi Sakamoto), Dauw and even UK dance label Aus Music. Tours have included shows with artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, S. Carey, Kurt Vile, Efterklang, Do Make Say Think and European festival slots at Rewire (NL), Explore The North (NL), Fusion (DE), Le Guess Who? (NL) plus many headline tours across the UK and Europe. Remixes and collaborations include Gold Panda, Masayoshi Fujita & The Album Leaf.
Previous press support has come from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, CLASH, Mojo, Uncut, Record Collector, Electronic Sound, KEXP, The Sunday Times, Le Monde, and many more.
'A beautiful, hushed and contemplative record, the falsetto reminding you of Bon Iver, the intricacy and tenderness recalling kindred spirits such as Nils Frahm and Sufjan Stevens' - The Sunday Times
'A delicate, persuasive balance between ambience and formal song structures... Minimal keyboard patterns are infilled with pattering, glitchy beats... Choir-like wash, pedal steel and double bass bring further colour.' - MOJO
'Gently cascading acoustics, country lapsteel and glitchy, crunchy tick-tocks, it might not just provide for want of serenity but for want of sleep: all the components shuffling quietly under the crackle of tape-machines.' - The Line of Best Fit
