Somewhere Soul presents Konkolo Orchestra as part of the latest Music to Expand Your Horizons.
The 12-piece project is initiated by multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Alexis Malefakis. With strong jazzy afrobeat and highlife references, Konkolo Orchestra pays homage to musical innovators such as Fela Kuti, Tony Oladipo Allen, and Ebo Taylor.
With Gilles Peterson hailing their debut album as "one of the big tunes of the year", they describe their album as the equivalent of gatecrashing a wedding party where even granny can get her groove on.
With distinct personality and a tight structure, the group is peppered with a talented array of guest vocalists, percussion, uplifting lyrics and joyful melodies held together by a powerhouse horn section.
Deeply funky and syncopated, this is a festive live show for both feet and spirit.
