After nearly a decade of silence, Diamanda Galás returns to the stage. An undisputed icon of avant-garde music, the American vocalist and pianist is known for her singular and unrelenting voice – a voice that traverses the space between scream and prayer, exorcism and redemption. This long-awaited return coincides with the release of two profoundly symbolic works: the remastered edition of You Must Be Certain of the Devil brings back one of the most incendiary albums of her career, while De-formation: Second Piano Variations, recorded live at the Pinault Gallery in Paris, offers a more intimate, haunting perspective on her sonic universe.
In the hands of Diamanda Galás, music becomes a ritual of affirmation and purification. On February 18th, at Casa da Música in Porto, we’re offered a rare chance to take part in this communion. A singular encounter with an artist who, after more than four decades of defiance and devotion, remains one of the most visionary and intense creators in contemporary music.
