More Information about O Rinoceronte
The Rhinoceros returns to the stage as an urgent fable of contemporary times: the metamorphosis spreading through the city, transforming humans into creatures that advance en masse, is a figure of the political slippage of our time. The play makes visible the rise of de-democracy—easy consensus, diffuse extremism, the fascination with unanimity. The staging deepens the conflict between the person and the face. The face appears as the guarded surface of the present time: a place where identity is demanded, molded, or devoured. In this silent combat, the person tries to keep intact an inner space that does not surrender. With lucid gentleness, Ionesco's humor becomes a critical tool: laughter illuminates danger, undoes rigidity, and prevents thought from closing in. Fluidity permeates the performance: everything changes before we know it has changed. At the heart of the play resonates a tender irony, which recognizes human fragility without ridiculing it. The question then arises: How to remain human in a time that is becoming accustomed to dehumanization? And, in a subtle gesture that transcends affections and choices: How to love without being crushed by the intensity of love itself?
